Niles Council approves annexation of 31 acres of Howland, Vienna property
Niles City Council voted to approve a tentative annexation agreement with Howland and Vienna Townships Monday night.
An agreement for the 31 acres was met Friday after years of negotiations.
The townships will not object to the annexation.
Township residents who have Niles utilities will not have to annex into the city or pay the development incentive agreement to continue to use those services.
And for the City of Niles, a new Stillwagon Road property will be annexed as part of the agreement.
Those property owners in the Stillwagon Area that had bought the undeveloped land, they're Niles people and developers. They both want their property in the City of Niles for full city services," Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz told 21 News.
The agreement lasts for 20 years and will be automatically renewed at the end of that timeframe unless all three parties decide to opt out.
Officials in Vienna and Howland are expected to sign off on the agreement in the coming weeks.
