Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Kelly votes for Scalise as Jim Jordan falls short in House Speaker vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The first vote to determine the new Speaker of the House ended without a new speaker being named.
Jim Jordan, the GOP nominee for the position, needs a majority of the House to win the role. If all members are voting, the candidate would need to get 217 votes.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had all 212 Democrats vote for him while 200 Republicans voted for Jim Jordan. Twenty Republicans voted for other candidates, leading Jordan to fall short in his first vote.
Valley representatives Bill Johnson and David Joyce both voted for fellow Ohio congressman and Republican Jim Jordan.
Pennsylvania congressman Mike Kelly was one of seven Republicans to vote for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.
According to Representative Kelly's office, he voted for Scalise after he won the internal vote last week as the Republican nominee, even though his nomination didn't get a vote by the House.
"A vote for the Speaker of the House is an internal process. Steve Scalise received the most votes among House Republicans when we voted internally last week and I believe he deserves a full vote on the House floor before we proceed to another candidate," Rep. Kelly said.
