Police in an Ohio community are cautioning iPhone owners about a feature they say could expose their private information, as well as that of their children.

An alert posted by Middletown Ohio Police says a recent iOS 17 update includes something called “NameDrop” that allows phone owners to easily share contact information and photos to another iPhone by holding the phones close together.

This feature defaults to ‘ON’, so those not wishing to use it must shut it off by going to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together, and changing the designation to ‘OFF’.

Parents are also reminded to change the settings on their children’s phones to help keep them safe.
