Trumbull County sheriff's deputy praised after stopping man allegedly trying to break into home

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - A Trumbull County sheriff's deputy is being praised for his work in stopping man allegedly trying to break into a Newton Falls residence while no one was home.
According to a press release, the deputy responded to a disturbance call at the 4300 Block of Rambler Street NW on Monday, November 27 where the deputy discovered a man, identified as 36-year-old Nathan Mears allegedly forcing his way into the home while the owners were away.
According to a Facebook post from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, Mears was armed at the time.
The post goes on to say Mears fled into the residence upon seeing the deputy with the deputy following him inside. The post says the deputy used "reasonable force" to prevent the situation from escalating.
According to the release, once Mears was apprehended, he told the deputy he kicked in the door because he "did not have a key" and that he "should have went through the window."
Mears was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, possessing criminal tools, obstructing official business and having weapons while under disability.
He was arraigned on these charges on Thursday and his bond has been set at $250,000. He's due back in court on Tuesday, December 5.
