Ohio Senate passes bill to protect local businesses from scammers, fraud
The Ohio senate has passed SB98, sponsored by Michael Rulli to provide protections to Ohio business owners.
The bill looks to update Ohio's business filing law to strengthen consumer protections and shield business owners from fraud.
"As scammers and thieves become more sophisticated in their schemes, it is important that there are safeguards in place to protect Ohio's hard working business owners," Rulli said. "As a small business owner myself, I know first hand how these bad actors can make a negative impact on their business and ultimately their livelihood."
According to the bill, it would streamline the complaint process against a scammer and restricts the reinstatement period for for canceled business registrations to two years to reduce fraud.
It also cracks down on deceptive or misleading mailers and puts for what it calls sensible measures to protect large and small businesses operating within the state.
