Youngstown Board of Education elect president, announce plans for district reconfiguration

The Youngstown Board of Education met for the first time in the new year and elected a new president.
Juanita Walker was named the new board president, with Tina Cvetkovich as the vice-president.
Also discussed tonight was a reconfiguration of the city's school buildings
An exploratory committee report suggested that the best thing for the district is to move Volney and Kirkmere students and staff to Chaney Middle School. Chaney Middle School will move to the Volney campus. Then Kirkmere will be a standalone preschool, with some office space as well.
It's a change the board says, has to happen.
"The state told us in their recent audit that we need to utilize our buildings at their optimal usage," said Tina Cvetkovich, the vice president of the Youngstown Board of Education. "Because we currently are not."
Cvetkovich added that having all preschoolers in one building will make it easier to get each child the resources they need, like physical and occupational therapy.
