Youngstown officials looking to convert closed downtown street into stairs

Youngstown is looking to convert a closed roadway section of North Walnut Street downtown between Commerce Street and Wood Street into steps.
The city announced the plan on Thursday, saying it will also look to add what is known as a Step Street, a thoroughfare fitted
with steps for pedestrian traffic rather than paved for vehicle traffic. This Step Street project will be constructed within existing roadway rights-of-way.
The City of Youngstown Public Works Department is seeking any comments you may have regarding the proposed project. The public may wish to comment on project-related issues, including the project's effect on residents, businesses, the local economy, historic or cultural resources, etc.
Any comments or questions should be directed to Charles Shasho, Deputy Director, by February 5 to be considered during this project development phase, but all comments will be addressed.
Comments can also be mailed to Shasho at 26 S. Phelps St., 5th Floor, Youngstown, OH 44503, emailed to Publicworks@youngstownohio.gov, or by calling 330-742-8800.
