Appeal denied for man convicted of Liberty Township road rage shooting

An appeal for a man convicted of a 2022 road rage shooting in Liberty Township has been denied according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
The Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals denied the appeal regarding the sentencing of 56-year-old Kevin Mallard, who was convicted of four counts of attempted murder with firearm specifications, inducing panic with a firearm specification, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and carrying concealed weapons in April of 2023.
He was sentenced to 68 to 73 and a half years in prison on these charges.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, Mallard appealed this sentence stating that he had entered his guilty plea before he was advised of his right to a bench trial.
Additionally, Mallard's appeal stated that the record did not support Judge Ronald Rice's imposition of consecutive sentences.
However, the appellate court ruled both of these claims to be without merit so Mallard's sentence still stands.
Mallard's charges stem from an incident on Belmont Avenue in Liberty Township in June of 2022 when Mallard Stopped at a traffic light at the East Liberty Street intersection and shot 20-year-old Zachary Woods in the face permanently blinding him.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, Woods died the following June.
