YSU volleyball coach steps down to pursue other opportunities
Aline Scott was the head coach for six years
Youngstown State volleyball coach Aline Scott has resigned after six seasons to pursue other opportunities outside of coaching. She submitted her letter of resignation on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
"I want to thank Aline for successfully leading our volleyball program over the last six seasons," said YSU Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ron Strollo. "She worked very diligently to move our program forward by increasing our talent on the floor and helping us to improve our support areas off the court. We wish her all the best as she moves into the next phase of her professional career."
"I want to thank Ron Strollo for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to coach this team," Scott said. "It has been my honor to lead the volleyball program, and I will be forever grateful for the people I have met and the opportunities presented to me during my six years here. Although I have decided this is the time to take on my next challenge, I will miss everyone at YSU immensely. Ron has assembled a great team, and they make this place truly special. I leave with nothing but gratitude for the players, my coworkers, and this university. I will forever be a Penguin."
Scott finished with 47 victories at Youngstown State, and the Penguins' best season in her tenure came in 2022 when they won a school-record eight Horizon League matches and had their highest win total in eight years. YSU went on a stretch of winning eight out of 11 matches down the stretch that season to qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 2014.
In her six seasons as a Penguin, she recruited and developed talented student-athletes that helped move the program forward. She recruited and coached an Honorable Mention All-American (the first in YSU's history), a Horizon League Player of the Year, two all-conference players and two members of the Horizon League All-Freshman Team.
Additionally, YSU had nine Academic All-Horizon League selections and eight academic all-district honorees in her six-year tenure. The team also earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award in each of her seasons.
Associate Head Coach Jesus Echevarria will lead the program while a search is conducted to find the next head coach.
