A large sum of money is coming to educational programs for children in Mercer County.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants for community learning programs in Mercer County. The following is a list of the programs that received the money and a cost break down:

  • Farrell Area School District - $392,694
  • United Way of Mercer County's STEAM After School Academics - $584,640
  • United Way of Mercer County's READ Elementary School Program - $550,000

The funding is through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, which provides grants to establish and support community learning centers that provide academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and their families, according to a news release from State Rep. Parke Wentling.
