The City of Warren will meet Monday evening to discuss multiple projects for the year of 2024 including multiple road resurfacing projects and other infrastructure-related projects.

Warren Engineering Director Paul Makosky tells 21 News the city will be discussing items from the Engineering Department's 2024 Capital Plan, which includes a variety of projects.

These projects include the resurfacing of numerous roads including High Street, Main Street, Mahoning Avenue and Park Avenue along with many more streets in residential neighborhoods.

According to the capital plan, the High, Main, Mahoning project and the Park Avenue project will cost an estimated $1,200,000 each with federal funds covering 80% of the cost and the other 20% coming from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) funds.

A separate project will involve the resurfacing of portions of Mahoning Avenue, Perkinswood Boulevard, Central Parkway and Eastland Avenue. This project is expected to cost $1,060,000 with OPWC funds covering 54% of the cost and the other 46% coming from the general fund and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

Meanwhile the city had allocated $1 million to resurface residential streets. Assessments have been made and the project will be put out to bid in the spring.

An additional $100,000 will be included in the project for road maintenance for items such as pavement repairs, pavement striping, traffic sign replacement, guardrail repairs and tree cutting.

The city will also be using Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) funds for the Arterial Sidewalks Phase 1 project, which would improve sidewalks along arterials routes throughout the city.

Streets named for this project include West Market Street, South Street, Parkman Road, Summit Street, Mahoning Avenue, Park Avenue and Elm Street.

The estimated cost for the project is $345,000 with 80% of those covered by TAP funds.

In addition, the city will also be discussing the Summit Street Dam removal project. 21 News previously reported the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 and is estimated to cost about $3,225,000.

Other construction projects to be discussed include a walkway overlooking the Mahoning River with a walkway through the failed wall section to the riverbank, a riverfront patio on the lower spillway, landscaping, lighting and other amenities.

This project is expected to cost around $450,000 with approximately $385,000 coming from federal grant funds.

Additionally, the city will discuss a project to replace the pedestrian bridge at Packard Park with construction expected to begin between 2025 and 2026.

Originally, the project was projected to cost $1,274,400 with 80% being covered by federal funds and the other 20% to be covered by the city.

However, the plan states costs have rose "significantly" since these federal funds were obtained, so the Engineering Department will be reaching out to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to discuss additional federal funding for the project.

The city will also need to allocate more local funds for the project.

Other projects to be discussed include a $200,000 project to demolish buildings deemed commercially unsafe, $207,500 project to repair utility cuts at various locations.
