A Boardman woman convicted of child endangering after her daughter ate a THC-laced brownie is in jail after failing to show up in court for sentencing.

Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Krichbaum issued a warrant for the arrest of 21-year-old Shawna McCurdy on Monday after she didn’t appear for a sentencing hearing. McCurdy was booked into the county jail on that same day.

McCurdy and 25-year-old Randi Green have each pleaded guilty to one felony count of child endangering.

According to a report filed by Boardman Police, the child's parents told hospital officials their two-year-old daughter ate a THC-laced brownie while visiting a neighbor in November.

Doctors at Akron Children's Hospital intubated the child who was given medication to control seizures. The child had to be intubated because the medication caused the girl to stop breathing.

Prosecutors are recommending one-and-a-half years in prison when Green is sentenced on Monday.

As of Wednesday, court records did not list a new sentencing date for McCurdy.

According to data from America's Poison Centers,  in 2022 children under 12 constituted 41% of exposures to THC, which is described as a psychoactive substance found in cannabis sativa plants like marijuana and hemp.

Consuming Delta-8 THC leads to events including hallucinations, vomiting, tremors, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, and loss of consciousness, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
