An Austintown man who attacked a Beaver Township police officer during a large standoff back in 2023 has learned his fate in court on Wednesday.

Thirty-six-year-old Zachary Crespo was sentenced to 14 to 17 years in prison on charges of felonious assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, violating a protection order, attempted disruption of public services, obstructing official business, aggravated menacing, endangering children and domestic violence.

All of these charges stem from a standoff that occurred back in May of 2023 when numerous law enforcement agencies and SWAT units were called to Longview Circle in reference to Crespo breaking windows in his ex-girlfriend's home.

At one point, Crespo "jumped" a Beaver Township police officer grabbing his gun, throwing a bottle of cranberry juice at him, which knocked him over and punching him in the face.

Police were eventually able to apprehend Crespo with a taser. Police say Crespo told officers he enjoyed being tazed and wanted to buy his own taser because it was "fun."

Crespo had pled guilty to his crimes back in January of 2024.

Beaver Township Police Chief Eric Dattilo released the following statement on Crespo's sentence.

"Beaver Police Department would like to thank the Mahoning County Prosecutor Office for their efforts in bringing Mr. Crespo to justice. Their efforts are appreciated and send a clear message that our law enforcement officer's safety is of paramount importance."

"We would also like to thank all the law enforcement agencies that assisted us on May 12, 2023. The cooperation and assistance we received was overwhelming and very much appreciated by our department and the Beaver Township community."

"We would also like to thank the Beaver Township Community for their support that night and for weeks after the incident. They continually show the Beaver Township Safety Forces support that is appreciated by all Police Officers, the Fire Department, and EMS."
