Cortland Council eyes plans for modern municipal building

Cortland City Council heard from several companies on plans for its municipal building on Monday night. Firms each had about a half hour to lay out their plans.
The current fire department was originally built for a volunteer fire department and township officials say it lacks what today's department needs.
Council members say the building has been added onto several times and has substantial upkeep costs.
"Our fire station is a piece bill it’s been added onto for 100 years and right now there are some challenges in 2024 versus something that was built in the early 1900s,” said Council President Ken Piros.
Piros says they've sent feelers out for federal and state grants to help cover the costs of the project.
They won't have a set timeline for the building's construction until they know what money is available.
