A Youngstown, Ohio man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail after police say they found three handguns, magazines, and boxes of ammunition concealed in a briefcase at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Allegheny County Police have filed charges against 26-year-old Luis Rojas Cay Saturday night.

Police say the briefcase containing the guns and ammo was inside another piece of checked luggage.

The briefcase was lined with roofing tape and sheet metal.  Each of the weapons was individually wrapped with foil.

After learning that Rojas Cay is on probation in Ohio and isn't allowed to have firearms, he was charged with three counts of persons not permitted to possess a firearm and three counts of carrying firearms without a license.

On April 22, 2022, a judge in Wyandotte County, Kansas sentenced Rojas Cay to prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery, attempted robbery, and child endangering.

Rojas Cay is currently on probation after pleading guilty in Lorain County, Ohio in August to carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Rojas Cay was arraigned on Sunday and faces another court hearing on May 6.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified, and County Police seized the firearms.

As of January 10, 2024, the Transportation Security Administration detected 43 guns at checkpoints at Pittsburgh International Airport in 2023, breaking the previous record of 35 guns caught in 2019.
