PennDOT is getting ready to start on a project to replace a century-old bridge in Mercer County.

Work is expected to begin June 3 on the replacement of the Route 62 Bridge in Jackson Township, which carries Route 62 over Fox Run. The project will cost $764,563.20 and will be paid for entirely with federal funds.

The bridge is 102 years old and is rated in poor condition. Approximately 2,400 vehicles a day use this bridge on average.

Work will consist of replacing the existing structure with a new concrete bridge, as well as minor paving leading up to the bridge, updated guardrails, delineators and pavement markings. Construction is expected to last until November of 2024.

During the construction period, a detour will be posted using I-79 and Route 358. This detour is expected to be in place until October.
