Public invited to watch tower climbers compete in North Jackson

Spectators are invited to North Jackson the second weekend in June as expert tower climbers perform daring feats of dexterity and skill high above the ground.
Admission is free to the second annual Tough Tower competition on June 8-9 at Tri County Tower Service, 8900 Mahoning Avenue in North Jackson.
The event will feature eight teams of two tower technicians who are professionals in the telecommunications industry from across the United States.
Teams will compete in eight preliminary industry-related challenges from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on June 8, both on the ground and on several training towers. Challenges will range from rescue and installation to crane maneuverability.
On June 9, the semi-final and final rounds will take place to decide the victor. Semi-finals will begin at 9 a.m.
"We had great success with this event last year," said Tri-County Tower CEO Chris Thomas. "Tower technicians show incredible fortitude and skill as they perform essential work every day, and it's great to recognize their talents in this exciting competition."
Event sponsors STG Communication Services and Tri-County Tower initiated this event in 2023 to draw attention to career opportunities in the telecommunications industry.
"We have a great weekend planned and encourage the media and public to attend. Spectators can witness competitors performing incredible feats on the ground and in the air,” said STG Communications Events Coordinator Amanda Gonzalez. “We'll also have food trucks and children's activities to enjoy."
