Dollar General announced that it recently remodeled two of its Mahoning County stores. The stores located at 3131 Center Road in Poland and 11083 W. Akron Canfield Road in Ellsworth now offer produce in addition to the "same categories, brands, and products customers trust Dollar General to carry."

In July 2023, the company announced it's 'Food First' initiative in which the company hopes to "provide customers with healthier options including more food products and fresh food." In January, Dollar General surpassed its initial goal of expanding its offering of produce to 5,000 locations.

"At Dollar General, we strive to be a positive business partner and good community neighbor," said Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General's senior vice president of real estate and store development. "Although we are not a grocery store, we believe the addition of produce... highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes affordable prices on quality products in a convenient location."

“We are constantly looking for ways to better serve our customers and one of our top priorities is to ensure the communities we call home have access to fresh, affordable, and convenient food options,” said Emily Taylor, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Dollar General.

In a press release, Dollar General stated that it now offers fresh fruits and vegetables in more than 5,400 stores across the country, offering fruit and vegetable items typically sold in traditional grocery stores and covering approximately 80 percent of produce categories most grocery stores carry. The store will also continue to offer frozen and refrigerated food items.

Normal hours of operation may be found through the Dollar General website or app.
