The Mathews softball team fell short in the Division IV State Semifinal game against Monroeville, losing 5-3.

"We had our chances, but they're a good team," said Mustangs coach Jim Nicula.

The Eagles Abby Poths hit a two-run homer to left in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the game-winner.

Poths played a big part in the Eagles' win, accounting for four runs batted in with a single, double, and homerun.

Olivia Matheny went the distance, allowing five runs and seven hits. Matheny posted ten strikeouts.

The Mustangs finish the season 23-9 and have no seniors.
