NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - Crews from several fire departments, as well as a HAZMAT team showed up to Newton Falls Monday evening to investigate some sort of spill into the Mahoning River.

Newton Falls Fire Chief James Williamson told 21 News someone had spotted a sheen on the water around 6:30 p.m. Monday. That sheen appeared to be petroleum-based.

Crews were able to find the source of the sheen and get it all contained.

At this point, it's unclear what exactly was spilled, but the EPA responded to the scene to see if any testing needs to be done in the river.
