NILES, Ohio - Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that forced the evacuation of an apartment in Niles.

A resident told firefighters he was watching TV just before 7:30 a.m. Monday when he saw smoke coming from a closet where the resident keeps a mini fridge.

The man says he opened the closet door and was hit by heat and smoke.

9-1-1 was called and the building on the 500 block of North Road was evacuated.

The first firefighter to arrive reported smoke coming from an apartment.

North Road was closed for more than an hour between DeForest Road SE and Heaton Blvd. until the fire was put out.

No one was injured, but damage to one apartment was so extensive firefighters say no one can live there.
