Report: Fights force early closing of Trumbull Co. Fair Saturday

CORTLAND, Ohio - Trumbull County fairgoers were rattled this weekend when several fights broke out at the fairgrounds.
According to a report from the Sheriff's Department, the Trumbull County 911 Center got a call around 10:14 p.m. Saturday regarding a large fight in the midway involving more than 40 people.
As officers responded to that fight, another brawl was called in near the slides on the southeast side of the fair.
While attempting to investigate both fights, fairgoers waved down officers with complaints of more fights and that some involved had guns.
The report says deputies tried to deal with the fighting and complaints while telling people to leave through Gate A. Officers were pushed back into the fair by the crowd.
A call for assistance was sent out to all available agencies and officers from Bazetta, Champion, Cortland, Howland, Lordstown and Niles arrived on the scene.
According to the report, some people threatened violence while others were yelling that they could see guns. Fair officials announced that the fair was closed and told everyone to leave.
While officers were escorting people from the fairgrounds, fights began to break in the parking lots.
After many fairgoers left, deputies say juveniles stayed in the parking lots.
No arrests are listed in the report.
