Boardman police are investigating after a report of damage to cars while a vehicle was being repossessed.

It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Tiffany Boulevard shopping center. Police say a car was being repossessed when its owner got in a tried to accelerate.

According to the report, the car didn't move but began to spin its tires, creating smoke and throwing hot rubber onto nearby cars while the tire exploded.

The debris landed on a 2021 Lexus that was parked next to the repossessed, causing discolorations in the Lexus's finish.

The owner of the repossessed car told police he had only missed a few payments and didn't believe it was acceptable that his car was being taken.

No charges have been filed.
