TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - The fate of a proposed replacement levy for senior services in Trumbull County is unknown after a Trumbull County Commissioner voted against it.

County Commissioner Denny Malloy tells 21 News as of Tuesday, July 31 the levy will not appear on the November 2024 ballot since he was not at the meeting to vote on it and Commissioner Niki Frenchko voted against it.

Frenchko explained the reason she voted no was because she had told commissioners for months that she would not vote in favor of any replacement levies, just renewals.

Frenchko says she feels Trumbull County residents already pay enough in property taxes and does not want to increase them. Frenchko went on to say she's sensitive to the needs of seniors and one of the things she's heard from seniors in the county is that their property taxes are too high.

Frenchko told us she'd gladly support this levy as a renewal rather than a replacement.

Malloy told 21 News he will do "everything in his power" to make sure this levy gets on the ballot somehow in November saying he's disappointed it didn't pass.

A special meeting was called for Thursday, August 1 at 2:15 p.m. to discuss this matter.

Meanwhile, Commissioners did approve three other renewal levies for the November ballot including renewals of the Children's Services levy, Mental Health and Recovery Board levy and the Board of Developmental Disabilities levy.
