A man who seemed intent on eating a submarine sandwich as he was being chased by Youngstown Police faces several charges.

Police watching for speeders Saturday along the Himrod Expressway say they raced after a Dodge Charger clocked at 93 miles per hour in a 50-mph zone.

The pursuit led police through the Eastside along Albert Street, East High Street, and Truesdale Avenue where officers say the Charger snaked through cars parked at a block party where children were playing.   Police say the car was traveling 50 mph along streets with a speed limit of 25 mph.

The chase ended near Oak Street when the Dodge was blocked by other police cruisers and forced into a parking lot where it stopped nose-to-nose with the police car that was chasing it.

Police say the driver was ordered to get out of the car, showing his hands.

According to the police report, the driver reluctantly complied, but his hands weren’t empty.  He was holding a submarine sandwich which he was still attempting to eat.

The driver eventually placed the sub on the roof of his car and dropped to his knees, placing his hands behind his back.

Police handcuffed the driver, 23-year-old Michael Cruz, charging him with speeding, running a red light, and failure to comply with a police order.   Cruz was scheduled to make a jail video appearance in municipal court on Monday afternoon.
