SLIDESHOW: Severe weather reported in Mahoning and Shenango Valleys
Parts of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys are currently experiencing severe weather.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 2:45 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, severe thunderstorms were on a line extending from Campbell to Boardman in Mahoning County at around 1:54 p.m.
Locations impacted include Youngstown, Salem, Columbiana, Boardman, Campbell, Struthers, Poland, New Middletown, Lowellville, and Greenford.
Midlothian Boulevard was closed between 8th and 9th Streets in Struthers due to trees down.
Anyone in these areas should move to the lowest floor of a building.
Meanwhile, areas of the Shenango Valley are under a flash flood warning until 5:00 p.m. Areas of impact include New Castle, Grove City, Slippery Rock, New Wilmington, Oakwood, and Pulaski Township.
Folks in these areas are advised to avoid driving on flooded roads and to turn around if they encounter a flooded road.
PennDOT is reporting several road closures in Mercer County. As of 3:00 p.m., these closures are as follows:
- Route 285 from Peterson Road to Church Street in Fairfield Township
- Route 158 from Auction Road in Wilmington Township to Route 318 in Mercer
- Route 258 from Hope Mill Road to Diamond Street in Mercer
- Home Street (Route 2013) from Route 58 to Route 19 in Mercer
- Bestwick Road (Route 3026) from Route 318 to Stone Base Road in East Lackawannock Township
Additionally, several National Night Out events have been canceled in Mercer County and Liberty Township in Trumbull County due to severe weather concerns.
Mercer County was previously under a tornado warning, but this expired just after 2:15 p.m.
Pictures sent to 21 News by viewers show trees down in multiple areas of Youngstown, including East Midlothian Boulevard and East Florida Avenue.
