Primary Health Networks (PHN) alongside Buhl Park in Sharon are introducing a new way to combat loneliness and isolation and build a sense of community in Mercer County.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the "Buddy Bench" was held at Buhl Park Friday morning.

According to a press release, the bench is part of an initiative to address the growing issue of social isolation by providing a space where individuals can connect and form meaningful conversations.

The bench is located on the north side of Lake Julia in Buhl Park. Additionally, there is a Communication Rock Garden at the site featuring ice breaker questions to help guide the conversation.

In addition, journal giveaways will be provided to encourage visitors to express their thoughts, feelings and experiences while utilizing the bench. These journals will serve as a means for folks to reflect on their interactions, share their stories and contribute to a stronger sense of community in Mercer County.

"The Buddy Bench is not just a seat; it's a symbol of our commitment to bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome. We hope this project will inspire countless conversations and strengthen the bonds within our community," said Buhl Park Executive Director Tom Roskos.
