The issue of recreational marijuana sales in the city of Hubbard will appear on the November ballot.

As the only dispensary within the city of Hubbard, A Cut Above (ACA) Dispensary was the sole target of a previous ban on recreational sales passed by Hubbard City Council.

A petition championed by the business received nearly twice the amount of required signatures for it to be filed.
ACA was notified of its certification Friday morning.

For ACA general manager Dustin Crites, this latest victory means he's one step closer to being able to operate his business as it was originally intended.

"We're here to educate the town, educate anybody that wants to know how the cannabis industry works, so that they can feel comfortable," Crites said.

With Ohio's first week of recreational marijuana sales exceeding $11.5 million, Crites added that the city's ban means losing out on a large chunk of funding that could be re-invested in the community.

"There will be a lot of revenue that will be going to other municipalities and other cities that are surrounding us, that will get to benefit from income that we'll be losing here in Hubbard," he said.

Crites noted the ballot measure will likely make the difference between whether or not they're able to continue operating in Hubbard or have to take their tax revenue somewhere else.
