Trucker sentenced to house arrest for deadly I-80 crash in Austintown
A truck driver involved in a deadly crash on I-80 in Austintown will not be spending any time in jail.
While Judge Scott Hunter did sentence 53-year-old Davit Pluidze to 180 days in jail, 150 of those days were suspended and the judge ruled those remaining 30 days be served under house arrest instead.
Pluidze also must pay $750 in court costs will be on probation for two years following his house arrest.
Pluidze was sentenced on a misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide in connection with a crash on I-80 in Austintown back in December of 2023.
The crash happened when Pluidze crashed into a median barrier and rammed into a pickup truck driving on the opposite side of the highway.
The driver of the pickup truck, 25-year-old Zackery Leffler of Kentucky, was thrown from the vehicle and died.
