PennDOT proposes project to replace South Dock Street Bridge in Sharon

SHARON, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans for a project to replace the bridge that carries South Dock Street over Pine Run in Sharon.
The bridge is located on South Dock Street between the intersection with Wayne Place and the roundabout intersection with East Connelly Boulevard. It was built in 1923 and reconstructed in 1990.
The bridge is currently classified as poor condition. Approximately 7,000 vehicles use the bridge a day on average.
Work will include replacing the existing bridge with a concrete box culvert, as well as curb, median and sidewalk replacement on the eastern side of the roadway. The project's goal is to replace the bridge and improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians.
Work on the project is expected to take place during the 2026 construction season. The project will be constructed using a temporary runaround, so the roadway should remain open for the majority of the construction period.
Construction of that runaround will be completed at the start of the project and require the removal of a portion of the existing curb and center median. It will extend through the existing industrial parking lot on the western side of the project and will include access for a pedestrian detour adjacent to the runaround.
