City of Sharon gathers public comments on comprehensive plan

The City of Sharon held an open house Tuesday evening to hear public comments on the city's comprehensive plan.
Sharon City Manager Bob Fiscus tells 21 News this open house was an opportunity for the public to come in and give feedback on the plan and identify what interests them and what would have the biggest impact on their quality of life.
Fiscus says the city has changed a lot since its last comprehensive plan.
"We've had a lot of revitalization and a lot of good things. We recognized that we needed a plan in place. We needed something to lead us to make sure when we were making those decisions we were doing what the public wanted and what was of value to the citizens and the visitors and all of our businesses," Fiscus said.
In terms of what people are interested in seeing, Fiscus says he commonly hears feedback about quality of life.
"Those who live here want to have safe neighborhoods that have high quality houses that are well maintained and the amenities to go with that whether that's recreation or our river, ... they want to have good restaurants to eat at and viable businesses to visit," Fiscus said.
Fiscus says the comprehensive plan has been in the works for about a year and has garnered support from focus groups. Now this open house will provide even more data on what people want in the city.
"This was our first public forum type open house, and we can go through and we can start to categorize what has the highest level of support [and] what maybe a focus group might have identified but the general public might not be as interested in and move those down," Fiscus said.
Fiscus tells us the city should have the plan finalized by early spring.
