Another step has been taken along the path to a new playground at Mathews Elementary School in Vienna.

The HERD (Honoring Education & Renovation for the District) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has received a $25,000 grant from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation to support the playground project.

Along with the $25,000 grant, Valley Electrical Consolidated has donated $10,000 to the project.

The HERD Foundation is also raising money through its HERD Brick Project which lets people buy personalized bricks that will be installed at the school.

"Our goal is to foster imaginative play, creativity and physical well-being in a safe and inclusive environment. Playgrounds are not just for fun. They also help improve concentration and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and resilience," said Beth Haddle with the HERD Foundation.
