Charges have been filed Tuesday against a Youngstown man accused of shining a laser pointer at an Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) helicopter.

The Youngstown Prosecutor's Office tells 21 News Joseph Lee was charged with one felony count of interfering with the operation of an aircraft. There is no word yet on when Lee will be arraigned.

The charge stems from an incident on September 26 when OSP was working with the Youngstown Police Department on a neighborhood anti-crime operation on the city's north side.

During this time, police say Lee was shining a green laser at the helicopter in the backyard of a home on Bennington Avenue. Lee told police he was trying to wrangle his cats with the laser.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is a federal offense and could land you fines of up to $11,000 per violation, or $30,800 for multiple incidents.
