POLICE: Motorcyclist seriously injured following crash on Youngstown's west side

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Police in Youngstown say a motorcyclist is seriously injured following a crash on the city's west side Monday night.
According to a crash report, the crash happened just after 10:30 Monday night on the 2800 Block of Mahoning Avenue near CVS Pharmacy when the driver of a motorcycle lost control and hit an SUV on its side.
The motorcyclist was thrown off the vehicle.
A written statement from the driver of the SUV says the driver saw the motorcycle approaching him from behind at a high rate of speed.
The driver says he veered towards the center lane to avoid getting rear-ended when the motorcycle struck his passenger side taillight and fender.
Multiple witnesses told police the motorcycle was traveling at least 50 miles per hour. The posted speed limit in the area of the crash is 35 miles per hour.
The report states that the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, police say the driver of the SUV did not sustain any apparent injuries.
It is unknown if anyone will be cited in this incident.
