Hurricane Helene left a devastating path of destruction across multiple states in late September, but in North Carolina, the carnage left by the rushing water has left parts of the state in ruins.

More than 230 people were killed during the late September hurricane, and more than half of the deaths were in North Carolina.

More than 500 miles away, people in the Mahoning Valley are gathering goods to help those impacted by the rain that overwhelmed communities near Asheville, N.C.

The Canfield Police and Fire Departments, the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, local businesses, including RJ Trucking, Foxconn, and Sam Pitzulo, and local organizations like the Columbiana American Legion Post 290, are helping organize the community donations.

So far, $40,000 in funds have been raised to help those in need, along with three semitrailers full of donated items, including clothing, personal items, diapers, formula, pet food, water, cleaning supplies, chainsaws, and more.

The final trailer is being loaded, so anyone wishing to help should drop off monetary donations or supplies today to the Canfield Police or Fire Department.

The two trucks, trailers and drivers or being donated by RJ Trucking and expected to leave by no latter than Saturday morning, while the truckload from Foxconn employees is expected to leave on Friday.

Meanwhile, Florida is bracing for Hurricane Milton — a category 4 storm — which is expected to make landfall tonight near Tampa.
