MERCER, Pa. - Donations are pouring in from across the Mahoning & Shenango Vallies to help those in need after Hurricane Helene ripped through portions of the U.S. less than two weeks ago.

One pizzeria in Mercer County is going above and beyond by collecting hundreds of items for hurricane victims in the North Carolina region.

"Our entire lobby is full," said Makayla Shannon, Owner of Fox's Pizza Den in Mercer. "It's been overwhelming, in a good way."

For the past several weeks, the staff at Fox's Pizza Den in Mercer is doing much more than taking orders and making pizzas.

The pizza shop partnered with Sipe Investment Properties LLC & Tyrel Sipe by collecting donations for Hurricane Helene victims.

"The truck was completely full when it came last Friday to be filled up," Shannon explained.

Fox's Pizza Den is located just 3 miles off of I-80, making it a convenient stop for truck drivers. One of their regulars is a North Carolina-based truck driver, who lives not too far from the hardest-hit regions.

"We jokingly said to him, 'Hey, we're out of room. Can we fill up your truck?' And it turns out that he lives 30 minutes from Boone, North Carolina, where a lot of the devastation occurred. He boxed his dinner up and offered to fill the remaining stuff that we couldn't fit in our trailer," Shannon explained.

Shannon explained the truck driver has multiple contacts with several drop-off locations throughout North Carolina.

Even with the devastation more than 400 miles away, another load is expected to be picked up this weekend.

"We just open our doors to everyone and just tell them to bring everything in," explained Craig Shannon, Owner of Fox's Pizza Den. "We just organize it and make as much room as we possibly can."

One gentleman pulled in with a car loaded with items; including dog food, diapers, toiletries, and toilet paper. He told 21 News he enjoys volunteering and donating in his free time and knew he had to help with the devastation down south.

"The shoe could always be on the other foot," Makayla Shannon added. "There's so much diversity right now and I feel like people are so divided. So, to see people come together for complete strangers, it's humbling, for sure."

The Shannons added certain non-conventional items are in high demand, including chainsaw sharpeners, rakes, and shovels.

You can drop off donations at the pizzeria, located 3 miles north of I-80 at State Route 58, Plaza, Mercer, PA.

Operating hours are 11-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
