Youngstown teachers union calls for president's resignation

YOUNGSTOWN - The President of the Youngstown Education Association could be removed from her position after union members are calling on her to resign.
Union members are calling for Jane Haggerty to step down after documents showed dishonesty and misrepresentation from her actions as the union's leader.
Haggerty is a 7th-grade math teacher at East Middle School and was appointed to the role this past summer.
In a private meeting Monday at the local union headquarters in Howland, a handful of teachers asked Haggerty to resign, explaining she is not acting in the best interest of the union.
Haggerty left at the start of Monday's meeting and told 21 News she does not plan to resign. This means the union will now begin an impeachment process.
In response to the request for removal, Haggerty told 21 News, "As long as the members who elected me still support me, I will continue to do the work for them."
Haggerty was one of the union members to spearhead the removal of former President Eric Teutsch. She is now under fire for communication concerns and for allegedly silencing the union on many occasions.
Back in April, YEA approved a two-year contract with the Youngstown Board of Education, avoiding a back-to-back strike within the district.
