Sheriff sale of Youngstown Chill Can given go ahead in court
In 2016, the proposed Chill-Can plant was expected to lead an economic revival of Youngstown's East Side, bringing out city leaders and political leaders for the groundbreaking.
After yearslong battles in court with the developer, the project was never finished.
In November, a planned sale of the property was delayed and went back to court again.
The Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has directed a sheriff sale of the parcel and buildings based on the Mahoning County Auditor's site appraised value of $2,069,370.
The court order came down last week.
The project, spearheaded by the M.J. Joseph Development Corporation of California, promised hundreds of new jobs for the area once it was completed.
Three buildings were erected on the multi-acre site but sat empty for years.
The city and MS Consultants have sued the company over money leading to the sheriff sale of the parcels
The company owed the city $1.5 million plus interest and MS Consultants $322,907.54 plus interest for the project.
