Representative Marla Brown announced in a press release on January 15 that Lawrence County Social Services Incorporated has been awarded $1.2 million in funding provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

The funding, coming in the form of a grant, will help support a regional project to provide assistance to more than 600 households with emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing and other outreach services.

"By investing in the tools provided by Lawrence County Social Services, we are taking meaningful action to help our most vulnerable residents find stable housing and get the support they need... I'm proud to see our community leading the way in combating homelessness and providing hope to those in need," said Rep. Brown in the press release.

The grant is part of a larger $5.5 million allocation of funds in the federal Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program.

The ESG program aims to support municipalities and nonprofits to address homelessness and housing instability. According to the press release, 14 municipalities and seven nonprofit organizations in 45 different counties will benefit from this program.
