A project that’s been nearly three years in the making will bring a 169,000-square-foot Amazon distribution center to Bazetta Township, according to trustee Michael Hovis.

Trumbull County property records show that a 61-acre parcel of land at 711 Perkins Jones Road has been purchased by Amazon.com Services LLC for $918,540.

Hovis confirmed to 21 News that the land will be used for what trustees called “Project Penguin” when they made an announcement last May that a warehouse was coming to the community. Trustees did not reveal that Amazon was behind the project at that time because of a non-disclosure agreement.

Hovis says trustees will reveal more about the project, such as a groundbreaking date, when Amazon permits them to release details.

During last year’s announcement, trustees said the project would cost $30 million and bring 120 new, full-time jobs to the community.

The project would require a 2,000-foot sewer main extension to the site, including what Hovis says would be a “substantial” electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Hovis said local officials have been working on the project with Ambrose Property Group of Indianapolis, a privately held industrial, logistics, and e-commerce real estate developer that builds in top U.S. markets.

According to its website, Ambrose has facilitated dozens of projects in 11 states including distribution centers for international companies like Caterpillar and Amazon.

Perkins Jones Road Northeast is a 1.3-mile-long stretch of roadway between Larchmont Ave. NE and Hoagland Blackstub Road.  The center will be built between Mosquito Creek Storage and Oak Meadow Cremation Service Inc.
