Newton Falls restaurant, Guns n’ Hoses, re-opens after owners recovery

A Newton Falls restaurant is back open after more than a month of being closed. Tables were filled at Guns ‘n Hoses during the dinner rush Tuesday.
“I feel good,” Donny Placer, Owner of Guns n’ Hoses said. “I’ll see how I feel in a little bit. I'm trying not to push myself.”
Donny manned his usual spot at the grill, while his wife Ashley served tables.
“I’m glad to see they're back open, happy that Donny is back on his feet again,” Roger Collins, a customer said.
“Donny looks so good I thought ‘oh you poor thing’ cause he went through a lot,” Elizabeth Kleinert a customer said.
The small family-owned business had to close unexpectedly back in January when Donny suffered a medical emergency.
“From being alright to about 40 minutes later to knocking on the door to see Jesus it's a terrible thing,” Donny said.
Doctors found a kidney stone and that Donny was suffering from sepsis. He spent five days in the hospital and another nearly three weeks recovering at home.
Meanwhile, the doors at Guns 'n Hoses stayed closed since Donny and his family are the only employees with a menu only they know how to cook. As the lights stayed off and the bills piled up, the community came together raising more than $5,000 to help the family keep the business.
“The goodness of the people saved our dream and we won't forget it,” Donny said.
The former Newton Falls firefighter says he’s blessed to be standing here today - slowly easing his way back into things.
“My saying is 'failure is not an option at any time' so we’ll thrive and we’ll survive,” he said.
And their regulars are just as happy.
“They're good people, the food's excellent, it's homemade,” Collins said.
“Well, I can't wait to eat it,” Kleinert said clutching her carry out bag. “It’s still warm.”
Guns n’ Hoses will be open Tuesday through Friday from 11a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located at 23 West Broad Street in Newton Falls.
