A man has been taken to the hospital after crews rescued him from a house fire in Youngstown Friday afternoon.

Fire officials on scene tell 21 News the fire is believed to have started from someone cooking in a home on the 3500 Block of Sheridan Road.

Crews say the man in the house was overcome by smoke and had to be dragged out. A dog was rescued from the home as well. Both the man and the dog are expected to be ok, but the man was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

It is unclear if the house is inhabitable, but fire officials say the inside of the home sustained a lot of damage.
