A Leavittsburg man who was charged after a dog was found abandoned in the cold with no food or water has learned his fate.

According to court records, 31-year-old Brae Menteer pled guilty to one second degree misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 88 being suspended for a total of two days in jail. He must report to jail May 2.

The jail sentence will be followed by one year of probation. During this time, Menteer is prohibited from owning or being in contact with animals. He must also pay a $150 fine.

The charge stems from an incident back in March of 2025 when a dog was found abandoned in what felt like 27 degree temperatures with no access to food, water or shelter.

The dog was taken to the Healthy Hearts & Paws Project, where she has since been adopted.
