Be prepared: Storm risk developing Tuesday PM

Tuesday will have that summer feeling as you step out the door. It will be the warmest day of the next 7 with temperatures making eyes with 80-degrees for the 3rd time this year and the air you can wear will travel alongside it. It’s a dry bright morning - what could go wrong? An environment with all the ingredients for storms sets up ahead of an approaching cold front.

Tuesday could be impactful for afternoon and evening youth sport games and practices, after dinner walks, and landscaping work with the potential of strong/severe storms. Large hail, damaging winds, and even a spin-up storm will be possible. This is the first "enhanced" risk of the year for our area (a severe weather risk of 3 out of 5). An "enhanced" risk is rare for the Valley, as we only see that a few times out of the year. The higher the level, the higher the risk. These storms will be scattered, but likely numerous with rapidly changing conditions as storms speed through our area. Have multiple ways to receive alerts and stay weather aware.

The calm after the storm rushes in for Wednesday with a mostly sunny, dry, and seasonable cooler day. The parades of April showers will bring May showers as another system arrives to kick off the new month. This time the raindrops will span between two and a half days Thursday, Friday, and part of Saturday. A stronger storm can bubble up Thursday afternoon.

The first weekend of May is trending more unsettled for Saturday. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and...a chilly rainy day on Saturday in northeastern Ohio/western Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh kids' marathon goes on Saturday morning (could have some morning showers, clouds, and a chilly breeze around). Lower 40s could greet you at the starting line if you are participating in the Sunday marathon or traveling to be a spectator you’ll want some layers. Afternoon temperatures will likely only manage the low 60s. We will monitor this over the coming days so you can best plan your weekend activities.
Have a great Tuesday!
