YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown Police have cited a woman for driving with a suspended license and other traffic violations after a two-vehicle crash at west side intersection that knocked out power in the surrounding area.

Police said the crash occurred late Tuesday morning at the intersection of Oakwood and North Hazelwood avenues. Officers found a gray Chevrolet Traverse and a gray Jeep Renegade with heavy damage against a utility pole. Everyone was out of the vehicles and sitting on the sidewalk.

FirstEnergy reported 237 power outages because of the crash.

Police reported that the driver of the Chevrolet told officers the Jeep ran a red light, striking her vehicle and pushing it into a telephone pole. Brooke Sakmar, the driver of the Jeep, admitted to not paying attention and running the red light, according to the police report.

Both drivers, along with a passenger, complained of minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

A check of law enforcement databases revealed that Sakmar's driving privileges were suspended for non-compliance, and her vehicle registration had expired.

A traffic citation was issued to Sakmar for driving under suspension, disobeying a traffic control device, and expired registration. She has a mandatory court appearance scheduled for May 16 in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
