A Boardman-based home goods retailer is apparently prohibited from making sales as of May 2 due to an order from the Ohio Tax Commissioner.
A notice posted on the front door of Burke Decor located on Boardman-Canfield Road states that the business is prohibited from making sales as of May 2, 2025 by order of the Ohio Department of Taxation.
Additionally, links to Burke Decor's online store redirect customers to a page that says "Something went wrong" and that "The store is unavailable."
When contacted for comment, a representative for Burke Decor told 21 News the respective businesses are working with the sales tax group to clear issues associated with the noticed accounts.
The representative tells 21 News all returns have been filed.
Burke Decor has struggled to keep up with online orders within the past year, first announcing plans to restructure in March of 2024 in order to "raise outside capital, reduce debt and restructure operations to improve profitability in the current economic environment."
The company had previously acknowledged difficulty keeping up with orders blaming high interest rates and changes to outside partners like Google and Meta.
However, these difficulties led to Burke Decor receiving an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau, an online group being formed to share negative experiences with the company and a lawsuit from a private lender over an alleged default on an $8.2 million loan.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost also filed a lawsuit against Burke Decor in March of 2025 on behalf of more than 350 customer complaints about more than $380,000 worth of good not delivered or refunded. That lawsuit is still pending.
