Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced Friday afternoon that he is suspending his campaign for governor of Ohio.
Yost was one of three Republicans running for governor with the other two being Vivek Ramaswamy and Heather Hill. Yost's decision to drop out of the race comes one week after the Ohio Republican Party endorsed Ramaswamy's campaign.
In a statement released to media outlets on Friday, Yost said the steep climb to the nomination for governor has become a "vertical cliff."
"I do not wish to divide my political party or my state with a quixotic battle over the small differences between my vision and that of my opponent. I am simply not that important," Yost said.
Yost went on to say the decision to drop out did not come easy and thanked those who supported him during his campaign. He further said he will continue to fight for Ohio during the remainder of his term as Attorney General, which ends in January of 2027.
