More than $85,000 announced for Youngstown State University technology and tools

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Ohio Controlling Board approved $85,883.51 in funding for Youngstown State University to update technology and tools.
The funding will go toward YSU's purchase of a portable measurement tool learning system, a UV 3D printer and virtual welding equipment.
This funding is part of the Department of Education's Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS) program, which intends to develop partnerships between universities and businesses.
This project receives funding under the department's Workforce Based Training and Equipment line item and aims to meet the high demand for skills in emerging manufacturing industries.
"In order for YSU and the Mahoning Valley to stay competitive with the rest of the state, it is important to have the most up to date technology and embrace this opportunity for the next generation of leaders. This is an exciting investment in YSU and will give students a hands-on learning experience," said State Rep. Lauren McNally.
YSU has been collaborating with stakeholders to develop a strategy for these types of education opportunities.
