2000: A Trumbull County jury of eight women and four men deliberated for 11 hours before finding Scott Burrows, 19, guilty of all charges in the killings of Charles and Dorothy London on Dec. 15.

Officials of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, which oversees the management of the Meander Reservoir, say they are not pleased with the prospect of drilling eight wells under the reservoir using slant drilling. Still, they are powerless to stop it and will monitor the work as it proceeds. 

Unable to find a small, old church to move onto the Canfield Fairgrounds, the Western Reserve Village Foundation allocates $100,000 to build a historic replica, the last of 12 buildings planned for the village. 

 

1985: More than a dozen people were killed, dozens injured, and hundreds of homes and buildings destroyed by twisters that ripped through Newton Falls, through Niles, and into Wheatland, Pa. 

Tornado survivors tell stories of how a quiet Friday evening turned into a night of horrors as homes disappeared and people died. 

Gov. Richard Celeste arrives in Newton Falls overnight and pledges state help to the ravaged communities of Trumbull County. 

 

1975: The city of Youngstown is considering an appeal to the Civil Aeronautics Board to reverse what it considers a serious degradation of air service at Youngstown Municipal Airport. Officials have met with United Airlines but have had no success in improving service. 

The 1975 class of Holeton-Arms School is having its senior prom at the White House, home of one of its graduates, Susan Ford. The class is expected to be billed about $1,300 for the cost of food, flowers, and accommodations for two bands. 

 

1950: Sinclair Refining Co. submits the low bid of 17.5 cents per gallon for the Youngstown municipal gasoline contract for the next three months. 

The Youngstown Health Department is investigating 11 dog bite cases over two days to determine if the animals had been vaccinated against rabies. 

Production at the Youngstown Steel Door Co. is halted for the second time in 30 days when Local 2310, USW, calls a strike over the issue of paid holidays for 750 employees.
