YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown City School District announced phase one of its district reconfiguration plan during a May press conference, and now, it is requesting community feedback.

The survey, according to a news release, aims to gather community feedback on the district reconfiguration plan.

This feedback, according to the survey, will "help guide [the Youngstown City School District's] plans to unite our schools and select a new name and mascot that reflect our shared values."

The survey is available online here until June 12.

Additionally, a town hall will be hosted by the Youngstown City School District on June 18, 2025, at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the auditorium of East High School, 474 Bennington Avenue.

The town hall will feature a presentation about the plan and an opportunity for questions according to the release.

Phase one of the reconfiguration plan will have juniors and seniors either choose a pathway at Choffin Career and Technical Center or enroll in College Credit Plus courses beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

Additionally, beginning in 2026-27 school year, the school district will "unite" its two traditional middle schools and two traditional high schools and rename them while maintaining its middle and high school early college programs.

The current East High School site will house the new unified high school while the current East Middle School will house the new unified middle school.

The district also previewed phase two which would move the early college high school and middle school into the former Chaney building by the 2027-28 school year.

A landing page has also been put together by the Youngstown City School District to keep community members up to date with reconfiguration plans. It can be viewed here.
